Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering has a long history of postgraduate education which was fully started since the last century. Now the faculty has 2 doctorate disciplines and postdoctoral research station(Geological Resources & Geological Engineering, Surveying Science & Technology); 8 sub-doctorate disciplines(Geological engineering, Geophysical Survey & Information Technology, Mineral Resources Census & Exploration, Geodesy & Surveying Engineering, Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing, Cartography & Geographical Information Science, Municipal Engineering, Project Environmental Control & Landscape); and 15 master degree program(Geological Engineering and Environmental Engineering).

GSEE has great international influence in basic science and emerging disciplines like Surveying Engineering, Geological Engineering and Environmental Engineering. The faculty has done a lot in coordinating resources, overall planning, highlighting priorities and deepening education reform for the full development of various disciplines. The Geosciences primarily including Geology and Surveying disciplines are planning to enter the top 1% of the global ESI Ranking in 5 years; The Environmental science primarily including Environmental disciplines and Fire Protection disciplines are planning to enter the top 1% of the global ESI Ranking in 8-10 years; The Surveying Science & Technology are planning to enter the top 10% of the country in 4 years and becoming the national first-class discipline; The Geological Resources and Geological Engineering are planning to enter the top 20% of the country and becoming the first-class disciplines in southwest region in 4 years. GSEE has strong strength of teachers, owing a innovation department of the Ministry of Education (High-speed railway safety and information technology), 31 professors (24 doctoral tutor), 42 associate professors, 76% teachers with doctoral degree, 20 teachers have doctorate from well-known overseas universities, 64 teachers have studied abroad for more than one year which account for more than 55% of the total. The faculty now has three national interdisciplinary comprehensive research platforms, three provincial and ministerial level interdisciplinary comprehensive research platform and four provincial and ministerial level professional research platforms. First-class disciplines, excellent teachers and research platform provide a solid foundation for graduate education.

The graduate education is based on the overall goal of building an international model college with the domestic first-class level, international influence and GSEE characteristics, with the guiding ideology of having the whole country in mind and the whole world in view. Relying on eight reform projects and emphasizing the systematic and forward-looking mechanism during the whole process, the openness and interactivity of the platform, constructing the interdisciplinary research platform with the scientific research project, enhancing the scientific research and innovation ability of the graduate students, and building the international academic platform based on the international exchange project to enhance the academic starting point of graduate students; Building a platform for the cultivation of talents to improve the quality of postgraduate training.

Based on the school overall goal of “The comprehensive research-oriented university with distinctive traffic characteristics”, GSEE is making further exploration on new ideas and new models of cultivating high-quality and high-level top talents, and making graduate education work in fact.
