On September 3, 2019, Esri China visited the Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering (FGEE). The objective of this meeting was to establishGeoAI Smarter Map and LiDAR of ESRI-SWJTU Centre of Excellence. Prof. Lutz Pluemer, the Dean of the faculty, welcomed the visitors and provided with a brief introduction of internationalization and the importance of collaboration. Dr. Saeid (Adam) Pirasteh delivered a presentation on why should we collaborate together to establish a joint centre. Adam said, “We are living in a multilateralism world and we need to work together more than before with accurate geospatial information utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) for smarter map incorporation with LiDAR.” He also stressed on the need of working together for building a good environment and a better world for now and future generations. Dr. Dianrui Du, the Manager of ESRI China, emphasized the joint collaboration with a concrete roadmap working together to sign a memorandum of agreement soon. Both institutes hope that establishing of the GeoAI Smarter Map and LiDAR of ESRI-SWJTU Centre of Excellence will increase the efficiency of teaching, research and development, in particular, entrepreneurs and creating jobs in the field of GIScience and related disciplines beyond, to economic growth of China. Prof. Qing Zhu, the head of the VERLAB concluded the meeting and highlighted the next steps to be carried out to establish the joint centre.
