2014 academic annual conference of Chinese Society for Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation was held on December 17, 2014, in Wuhan. The theme of the conference was “Reform, mutual progress, innovation and development”, which showed both the mien of the workers and the achievements of geographic information. A number of prominent leaders attended this conference and gave significant speeches. There were about 1000 representatives who came from different backgrounds going to the conference.
A grand awarding ceremony took place after an opening event. The project titled “Construction of Provincial Emergency Surveying and Mapping Command Platform”, undertook by Sichuan Bureau of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation, Chinese Academy of Surveying & Mapping, Southwest Jiaotong University, Wuhan University, and Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment (IMHE), Chinese Academy of Sciences, won the first award of 2014 National Science and Technology Progress in Surveying and Mapping. Our faculty members Prof. Qing Zhu and Prof. Jun Zhu participated in this work. Furthermore, two papers completed respectively by Yuanyuan Zhu and Yuan Li, master’s students supervised by Prof. Qing Zhu, earned two first prizes of 2014“ Chinese Society for Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation GEOWAY Outstanding Youth Paper”. This student paper competition received 167 candidate papers totally. After experts’ conscientious discussion, there were 21 preeminent papers coming out, including 6 papers of the first prize and 15 papers of the second prize.
Invited by Chinese Society for Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation, Prof. Zhilin Li, the dean of our faculty, made a speech titled “To See Standards and Certifications for Surveying and Mapping Education and Training in China from Abroad”, and Prof. Qing Zhu, the executive dean of our faculty made a speech titled “Location Big Data and Spatial Intelligence”.
