Our University Won the First Prize of Group in the 3rd Sichuan Provincial Competition of College Students’ Survey and Mapping Skills

The 3rd Sichuan Provincial Competition of College Students’ Survey and Mapping Skills was held from July 14th through July 16th, at Southwest University of Science and Technology in Mianyang, Sichuan. 24 competitors and 4 instructors of our faculty attended the competition.

This completion includes five individual items, i.e., leveling, traverse surveying, 1:500 digital surveying and mapping, topographic map database establishment, and 3-D laser point cloud modeling. Our competitive team participated in all items, and finally won the first prize of group, two individual first prizes, six individual second prizes, and six individual third prizes, which was the best grade that our university had achieved in this competition.

Our faculty has attached great importance to this competition. Prof. Chenglong Liu, the vice dean of our faculty, gave several great pep talks before the competition. Department of Surveying and Geo-Informatics has made careful arrangement and organization for pre-competition preparation, and arranged five instructors to guide competitors toward a better mastery of the survey and mapping skills. All the participants made great efforts before the competition and spend a lot of time for training. Survey and Mapping Association has undertaken a great deal of work in selecting contestants and arranging pre-competition training.
