From October 9th to 11th, 2019, at the invitation of Professor Zhao Rui from the Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering of our school, Dr. Sven Lautenbach of Heidelberg University in Germany paid a three-day exchange visit to our school. Dr. Sven is a senior scientist in the GIScience research group of Heidelberg University. He holds a double degree in Geographical Sciences from the University of Heidelberg in Germany and Applied Systems Science from the University of Osnabruck in Germany. He currently holds a position in Helmholtz, Germany. Postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Computational Landscape Ecology of the Environmental Research Center, mainly engaged in research on ecosystem services.
At 9 am on October 10th, Dr. Sven delivered an academic report titled "Trade-offs of Land Use Decisions with Respect to Ecosystems Services" in the X4520 conference room of Xipu campus. The report explains a series of contradictions between land use and urban ecosystem in the current process of urban development. After analyzing various types of ecosystems, Dr. Sven said that through environmental engineering, data analysis, modeling and optimization techniques, he studied the trade-off and coordination effects of land use decision-making. After the meeting, Dr. Sven answered relevant questions raised by teachers and students.
On October 11th, at the suggestion of Professor Zhao Rui, the head of the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Dr. Sven was invited to participate in an event with the theme "I and PhDs face to face" to discuss academic issues with internationally renowned experts and scholars. Through this activity, the academic exchanges between teachers and students and international experts will be strengthened, with a view to laying the foundation for all-round cooperation in the future.
