On November 10 through November 12, the 2020 Summit Forum on National Organic Solid Waste Treatment and Resource Utilization was held in Changsha, Hunan, China. The Summit was jointly hosted by more than ten domestic universities and research institutes, such as the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, Tongji University, Tsinghua University, Hunan Agricultural University, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS, Zhejiang University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Southwest Jiaotong University.More than 20 participants attended the summit, including Professor Zhao Rui, Associate Professor Peng Daoping, Associate Professor Shen Li, Dr. Cai Guolin and Dr. Yu Yang from Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering, the doctoral and master candidates in the program, and the cooperative research team of the program.
As the co-organizer of this summit, Southwest Jiaotong University assisted in hosting the parallel session on the topic of "Risk Identification and Safe Disposal of Organic Hazardous Waste".At the parallel session, Professor Zhao Rui gave a report titled "Impact of Landfill Leachate of Different Landfill Ages on HDPE Pipes", in which,he introduced the environmental risks of leachate in the process of pipe gathering and transportation, and explained the impact of landfill leachate of different landfill ages on HDPE pipes, and gave an outlook for the future research.In addition, the teachers and students of our school also delivered several wonderful academic exchange reports, including the report ofSolid Waste Yard Identification Based on High-resolution Remote Sensing and Deep Neural Network Learninggiven by Associate Professor Shen Li,Research on the Impact of Salt on Single-component Anaerobic Fermentation of Kitchen Wasteby Associate Professor Peng Daoping,Development of Online UAV Aerial Photography Simulation System and Its Application in Solid Waste Managementby Dr. Cai Guolin,Exploration and Application of EEG in the Research of Garbage Classification Behaviorby Dr. Yu Yang,Application of HDPE/Silicated Acrylate/Nano-SiO2-based Composite Materials in Leachate Transport Pipelinesgiven by Ph.D student Li Min, andResearch on Chengdu Hazardous Waste Disposal Path Based on Big Data Mining under the Background of "Zero-Waste City"by Ph.D student Zhan Liping.
The yearly Summit Forum on National Organic Solid Waste Treatment and Resource Utilization has wide influence in the academic circle and the industry at home and abroad.A total of more than 1,300 representatives attended this summit. While sharing and exchanging their academic achievements, the representatives discussed the frontiers of organic solid waste treatment and resource utilization in China, and promoted the scientific and technological innovation capacity in organic solid waste treatment and resource utilization in China, and contributed to the deep integration of enterprises, universities and research institutes.This conference provided a platform for peer exchange for the research teams to demonstrate the research progress in solid waste management and informatization, and also had a positive impact on enhancing the academic influence of our environmental sciences and promoting exchange and cooperation.
