From October 24 to 25, 2020, Professor Cheng Qiangong, at the invitation of Ren Yunsheng, President of Institute of Disaster Prevention, paid a two-day visit to the Institute, and attended the Inauguration Meeting of the Council of the Institute of Disaster Prevention as a special invitee.
The Institute of Disaster Prevention, affiliated to China Earthquake Administration, is China’s only comprehensive full-time university that focuses on disaster prevention, mitigation and relief with full range of disciplines. Based on the disaster prevention and mitigation industry and oriented to the needs of emergency management and economic and social development, the Institute has gradually established a modern multi-level & multi-type school-running system with dominance of full-time undergraduate education, combined with master education, adult education and industrial training. The Institute is set with 32 undergraduate programs, including 11 core programs of disaster prevention and mitigation (Geophysics, Geology, Resource Exploration Engineering, Groundwater Science and Engineering, Exploration Technology and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Surveying and Mapping Engineering, Geological Engineering, Urban Underground Space Engineering, Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, and Emergency Technology and Management), 13 supporting programs (Engineering Management, Electrical Engineering and Automation, Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation, Computer Science and Technology, Network Engineering, Information Management and Information System, Communication Engineering, Geographic Science, Internet of Things Engineering, Data Science and Big Data Technology, Applied Psychology, Public Utilities Management, and Environmental Engineering), and 8 extension programs (Finance, Investment, Accounting, Business Administration, Chinese Language and Literature, Advertising, Internet and New Media, and English). These programs cover five disciplines such as science, engineering, management, literature and economics. The Institute is a university featured by disaster prevention that serves China's earthquake prevention and disaster mitigation.
Professor Cheng, invited to the Inauguration Meeting, was appointed as a member of the Council, and shared his ideas on the future development planning of the Institute as an expert from the Steering Committee for Teaching.
Invited by Li Ping, Deputy Dean of School of Geological Engineering of the Institute, Professor Cheng delivered a lecture named "Study on Dynamic Crushing Mechanism of High-Speed Long-Distance Landslide" for the undergraduates, graduates and young teachers of the School. During the nearly two-hour lecture, Professor Cheng introduced the basic characteristics and study status of high-speed long-distance landslide, the typical cases of landslide disaster in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and the significance and study progress of dynamic crushing of landslide in vivid and simple words. Professor Cheng's impassioned lecture made the audience so inspired for profound discussion.
