Faculty Positions in Geosciences and Environmental Engineering

Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering (FGEE)

Southwest Jiaotang University (SWJTU)

Chengdu, China

The Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering (FGEE) of the Southwest Jiaotang University seeks to increase its international visibility with scientists who will strengthen our mission of developing an international centre of excellent interdisciplinary research and education in the fields of geosciences (including geodesy, photogrammetry, geomatics, remote sensing, geology and geological engineering) and environmental engineering (including fire protection engineering). For this purpose, we intend to recruit up to 20 more international experts in the next few years.

Introduction to SWJTU

The Southwest Jiaotang University (SWJTU) is located in Chengdu, the capital of the Sichuan Province, in the southwest of China. With 15 million inhabitants, Chengdu is regarded as one of the Chinese metropolises with the highest quality of life. As one of the oldest Chinese universities, the SWJTU is regarded as the birthplace of China’s modern education in transportation, mining & metallurgy and civil engineering, thus promoting the development of the Chinese railway system for 123 years. Today the SWJTU is continuously contributing to development of the high speed railway system and the international One Belt one Road project, which passes through some areas with the highest geological and tectonical complexity in the world, and faces some major challenges in the innovative engineering solutions, understanding and control of natural hazards, as well as preservation of the natural environment with cutting edge technologies.

Vision of FGEE

The primary concerns of FGEE include railway reconnaissance and construction, monitoring of local and global environmental changes, understanding the interaction between the natural environment and human-built infrastructure, provision of engineering advice and design, avoiding and predicting natural hazards, emergency response, identifying opportunities and preserving the environment. We carry out fundamental research by combining with the engineering approach and have extensive cooperation with industrial and governmental stakeholders.

FGEE is striving to become an international interdisciplinary center of excellence, a training base for internationally competitive experts and talents, and a think-tank for high speed railway infrastructure, natural-hazard management, and environmental sustainability. We play a pioneering role in university study reform, focussing on the student-oriented teaching approach, and conveying the problem-solving competence by project-oriented studies.
