Professor Cheng was invited to attend the first International Symposium on Soil Dynamics and special soil mechanics

July 25thand 26th, 2015, the first International symposium on soil dynamics and special soil mechanics was held in Harbin. The symposium was sponsored by the National Science Foundation of the Earth Science Department, the Ministry of Engineering and Materials Science, the geotechnical mechanics committee of the Chinese Society of Mechanics, Harbin Institute of Technology, Nanjing University of Technology, Beijing University of Technology, China Seismological Bureau, and other units. 150 scholars from the national soil dynamics and special soil fields, as well as the United States, Japan and other countries attended the conference.

The theme of this conference is soil dynamics and geotechnical seismic engineering, permafrost and special soil mechanics engineering, high speed rail transit and subway geotechnical mechanics problems. 30 guest reports and 35 thematic reports were conducted around the theme of the General Assembly.

The conference papers and reports have embodied the new opportunities and challenges in the development of soil dynamics and special soil mechanics in China: The site liquefaction and geotechnical seismic engineering caused by the earthquake are still the hot spots of the research. The international seismic liquefaction Centrifuge Model test technology and research has made rapid progress, and closely combined with the new problems of soil dynamics in major projects; The dynamic direction of marine engineering soil is developing rapidly, and the application of dynamic test, detection and monitoring of high speed railway has been paid much attention; the new progress of permafrost mechanics in high-speed railway; young people are active and become the main force of the subject.

Professor Cheng of Geological Engineering of our College attended the International Symposium on the new Progress of soil dynamics and special soil mechanics, and was invited by the organizing committee of conference to chair the expert/young expert invitation report.
