Undergraduate Program of the Major of Surveying Engineering

Ⅰ. Introduction

The undergraduate programs of Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) for specialty of Surveying Engineering aims to cultivate entrepreneurs, engineers etc. on surveying engineering with also knowledge of rail transit related. The prospect in the near future is to join the first.tier programs of China and be influential surveying program globally.

The grogram has a long history and the surveying related course was printed on the early SWJTU graduation certificate which is also the oldest existing college graduation certificate in mainland China. In 1959, SWJTU launched an aerial surveying specialization in the Department of Railway Construction. The specialization was changed into photogrammetry and remote sensing program in 1985 and begin to enroll students as the program of surveying and mapping in 2015. At present, this program is the top one in rail transit and in southwest area of China. The program’s construction is supported by the national “Double.First Class” project, “Collaborative Innovation Center”, “211” project and “985” project. The program has advantages of follows.

The undergraduate program of SWJTU for specialty of Surveying Engineering is the leading one in the area of railway related and has a long history. Many professional talents working in the railway surveying area have even been educated here.

The teachers have been prepared for the program’s internationalization by the chance of constructing the international school. This enables them to contribute directly to the Belt and Road Initiative, and the Globalization Strategy of China's High-Speed Railway.

The various high-quality platforms for talents cultivation are available, including the National United Engineering Laboratory of Integrated and Intelligent Transportation, a National (Virtual simulation) Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, and a national center of engineering practice and education.

Ⅱ. Objectives

The students graduated from this undergraduate program are supposed to have good professional ethics, solid knowledge about surveying theories and technologies. They should be able to conduct the Geographical information production, science researches, technical management and education on the related areas such as railway transportation, natural resources, urban planning.

The students should reach the level of the registered surveyor five years after they graduate and be technical experts on surveying engineering. The specific objectives are as follows.

(1) Professional quality

Have good professional ethics, can quickly adapt to different working environments and cooperate with others.

(2) Professional ability

Have the practical ability of an engineer and technical expert. Can solve the surveying related problems in practice and finish the project and tasks on surveying engineering independently.

(3) Management and communication

Have the visions of the related laws, society, environment, economy, natural resources and so on. Can well communicate with other workers. Has the ability to manage and conduct the projects.

(4) International visons and life long study

Have the international visions, be familiar with the international surveying engineering rules and can conduct cross cultural communications. Be able to satisfy the requirements of the international engineers to serve the Belt and Road Initiative advocation. Keep abreast of new research and ideas such as by participating continuing education.

(5) Innovation capability

Have the sense of innovative and systematic thinking ability to solve the surveying engineering problems in practice. Can lead a group to develop the geographic information platform for railway transportation. Be able to develop innovative surveying approaches in necessity.
