Research Interests

I have been involved in the development and application of gravimetric methods for studying processes of earthquakes and volcanic eruption. I presented comprehensive formulae on co-seismic and post-seismic gravity changes in various media including the simplest homogeneous elastic half-space and the most sophisticated stratified spherical viscoelastic earth.

My current interests are

(1) theoretical evaluation of regional to global stress/strain field within the earth during and after great (Mw> 8) earthquakes, and

(2) numerical evaluation of hydrological effects on gravity change.

The first theme will improve our understanding on how and to what extent crustal stresses accumulate in the long geological history, which will contribute to reduction of future earthquake hazards. The second topic aims at sensing deep groundwater flow with a gravimetric method.
